The EFFAT Meat Coordinating Committee met in Brussels on 17 November 2016 to discuss the exploitation of posted foreign workers in the industry. Currently, the EU legislators are discussing the revision of the posting of workers Directive, which could restore a fair level playing field for companies and at the same time improve the daily lives of thousands of posted workers. This discussion is critical as it could also restore workers’ confidence in the European Union. As trade unions, we need to work toward a common ambition of fraternity, a European brotherhood. We stressed in a letter (available under 'Documents') to the European Parliament that we will only accept changes in the Directive that unambiguously provide that all (posted and non-posted) workers are ensured “equal pay for equal work at the same workplace".
